Record Shop + Listening Room at WHYR Community Radio Station

This project transformed a 300 square foot empty public storefront at local radio station, WHYR, into a listening room and record shop. The shop hopes to bring people together through music and performing arts while re-activating the building's corner space for the community. The shop also serves as a creative way to utilize the station's extensive vinyl collection. The non-profit radio station sells the donated records for $1 to support its operations.

The Perkins Road Burger Fest Presented by Geaux Rouge

Geaux Rouge is proud to present "The Perkins Road Burger Fest" on Saturday, January 28, 2017, from 2pm-6pm. This will be a charity event with proceeds benefiting Mary Bird Perkins - Our Lady of the Lake Cancer Center and A.C. Lewis YMCA.

Attendees will get to sample a small burger from each participating competitor and beer from Mockler Beverage Company. Tickets to the event are $20.00 for regular pricing and $15.00 in online early bird pricing until January 6th.

There will be a battle amongst the competitors for The "Taste" Award, selected by a panel of judges, and a "People's Choice" Award, voted on by you, the attendees! The winners get the title of Best Perkins Road Burgers. 

There is a current list of competitors but invites are open to any and all burger spots on or around Perkins road to compete.

The Walls Project: MLK Day Festival of Service

Building on the momentum of the thousands of volunteers that came out to transform 10 blocks along Main St. in Mid City last January 2016, this year the community cleanup efforts will extend to a 4-Day Festival Of Service from Friday 1/13/17 to the Monday 1/16/17 to paint even more murals, cleanup 2x as many blighted properties, and help fix-up houses in the surrounding neighborhoods.

Stuff the Truck Fundraiser

The Baton Rouge Association of Minority Firefighters (BRAMF) is a non-profit community based organization that strives to promote firefighters in a positive light within the community. As a part of their service to the community, they are sponsoring the Stuff the Truck Christmas Celebration on December 17, 2016.

This Stuff the Truck event will collect toys for underprivileged children during the holiday season. These toys will be given to the Department of Children and Family Services. 

There are several ways to contribute, online and several drop off locations.
